Want to achieve something that is difficult to imagine yourself actually accomplishing? Visualize it! This is what I had to do in order to progress in my airline pilot career program.
It was time to fly a multi-engine aircraft. I had my work cut out for me if I was going to continue to progress along my journey towards becoming a commercial jet pilot. I knew flying a multi-engine plane would be difficult, but I could not have imagined just how much more difficult flying a plane with two engines instead of one would be. I had seen myself flying a plane, but now I needed to “see” myself flying a new beast.
“Visualization is daydreaming with a purpose… If you can visualize it, you can actualize it.” – Dennis Conner
To achieve success in this part of the program, I imagined what I was going to do when I got up in the plane. I had to prepare my mind for the tasks at hand. Everything that would be routine had to be memorized. Everything that was “only in case of emergency” had to be anticipated as something that would actually occur. After all, I was going to be tested on all this material to a very high degree.
I created the video below in sort of a “short film” format in the hopes of giving you even a glimpse into what it was like to finally obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to complete the task at hand. If you want to achieve what seems to be out of reach, visualize yourself doing it – over and over again. You can do it!
