With the God of War release being announced as just over the horizon on April 20th 2018, I think now is a perfect time for a plot theory discussion; of which I have two. First and foremost, I’m a huge fan of GoW and haven’t learned anything about the new story other than it’s now set in Norse mythology. So my theories are purely my own speculation and haven’t been researched. Still, please beware of (potential) spoilers if I happen to somehow nail it.
1. Kratos will likely die at the end of the story…. FINALLY.
Man, Kratos has been doing his damnedest to die since I dropped the very first God of War disc into my Ps2 over 10 years ago. As we all know, his quest for revenge led him to leave the planet in total ruin by the end of GoW 3 and our favorite antisocial antihero still feeling unfulfilled. It makes perfect sense that we would see an elderly Kratos battle his way to a huge, compassionate ending where he may sacrifice himself to save his son. Thus finally redeeming himself and being able to find some sort of peace in death.
2. When all the Greek Gods die and the world plummets into chaos, the Norse Gods step up to restore balance and begin their reign.
As I mentioned before, pretty much the last we see of Kratos before this much older version is right after he’s killed Zeus and the world is spinning into destruction. It seems that the elements are linked to the God’s livelihood, as we see when Kratos dispatches Poseidon at the beginning of GoW 3 and the seas instantly begin to flood. With that being the case, it’d be cool to see the story take an approach from a linear standpoint, like the Greek’s rule is over and Norse time in next. Then maybe we’d see it move into Egyptian and so on. I think that would be a pretty cool idea for being able to jump mythos.
Whether or not these theories are accurate will be decided along with what may be Kratos’ final fate on April 20th, 2018 and not even the Sisters of Fate can hold me back from bringing this scarred story to its conclusion. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but when the time comes, you can be sure that The Player Way is going to be right there to catch every single detail and we’ll definitely keep you posted.
