With Production and Distribution companies like Amazon and NEON, 2017 feels starkly different from 2016 when it comes to the amount of originals releasing. Summer 2017 has already gifted us with movies like Dunkirk, Baby Driver, The Big Sick, and we have movies like Ingrid Goes West, and Good Time set to come out later this summer.

I don’t believe sequels will ever completely go away, but 2017 feels like a step in the right direction. We finally have new and interesting things to look forward to outside of the next Marvel or Star Wars films. And these new IPs don’t all feel like a grab for an Oscar. 

I hope this trend continues, and we continue to get fun and interesting movies from Hollywood. Only time will tell, but I think it’s safe to start getting a little excited.
